Ristorante Vecchia Firenze – A Historic Tuscan Restaurant in the Heart of Florence
Located in the historic center of Florence, Ristorante Vecchia Firenze is a renowned Tuscan restaurant that has proudly preserved its culinary traditions since 1950. Housed in a centuries-old building adorned with remarkable frescoes and complemented by an impressive wine program, it remains one of the most memorable dining experiences I had during my visit to Florence.
1. A Dining Space Filled with Renaissance History and Art
Ristorante Vecchia Firenze occupies part of a historic palace dating back to the 14th century. The restaurant is situated in what was once the private chapel and storage area of the noble Albizi family. Each dining room features its own distinctive artistic character, creating a truly unique atmosphere.
Frescoes by Alfio Rapisardi
Every room is decorated with original frescoes by the contemporary Italian artist Alfio Rapisardi, whose imaginative paintings bring the walls and ceilings to life.
Artistic-Themed Dining Rooms
The ceilings and walls depict mythological figures, heavenly beings, and symbolic scenes, with each room expressing a different artistic theme.
Sala Genesi (Genesis Room)
Formerly the Albizi family's private chapel, this is the restaurant's largest dining room and is especially popular for group gatherings.
Sala Paradiso (Paradise Room) & Sala Giudizio (Judgment Room)
Guests can enjoy an intimate meal beneath frescoes that reinterpret religious and mythological themes through a modern artistic perspective.
La Corte (The Courtyard)
During the summer months, diners can relax in the restaurant's private courtyard garden, which accommodates approximately 90 guests.
2. Don't Miss the "Divine Wine Tasting" Experience
Wine lovers should not miss the Divine Wine Tasting, held every Saturday and Sunday evening at 8:00 PM.
The tasting menu changes every week, with each course expertly paired with premium Tuscan wines. An experienced in-house sommelier introduces the history of each wine, explains the local terroir, and shares fascinating insights into why Tuscan wines are celebrated around the world.
3. Signature Dishes and Excellent Value
Although the restaurant is located in the heart of Florence, just a short walk from the Duomo and Piazza Santa Croce, it is well known for offering excellent value for money. It is also a popular venue for gatherings and celebrations among local residents.
Traditional Tuscan Cuisine
Handmade Pici pasta with duck ragù
Tagliolini with fresh truffle
Porcini mushroom pasta
Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine T-Bone Steak)
One of the restaurant's most popular specialties is the traditional charcoal-grilled Florentine steak. A complete set menu—including an appetizer, roasted potatoes, salad, and homemade dessert—is available from approximately €35 per person, making it a favorite choice among visitors.
The restaurant also offers gluten-free certified dishes and vegetarian alternatives upon request.
